Description
The AIRS Network offers a bursary supplement program for student and postdoctoral fellows members of the Network. This program aims to promote networking and collaboration between regular members.
According to the rules of the FRQ, the bursary supplement amounts is $5,000 for a second cycle student and $10,000 for a third cycle student or postdoctoral fellow.
The bursary supplement granted by the Network has two main objectives:
- To promote collaboration and networking within the AIRS Network. The research project must include significant collaboration with at least one other member of the AIRS Network.
- To serve as leverage to help obtaining funding from public granting agencies or industry (FRQ, CIHR, etc.).

- The bursary will be effective during the administrative period from July 1 to June 30.

Program eligibility
- Be a graduate student master’s or doctoral level or a postdoctoral fellow who is a member of the Network. Students who already have a
scholarship from a granting organization (FRQ, IRSC, etc.) are not eligible. - Only one student per regular AIRS Network member researcher will be eligible for this scholarship in the current year.
- Candidates who plan to start in their host laboratory in September are eligible.
Evaluation process
The evaluation of applications will be based on 3 criteria
- The student’s or postdoctoral fellow CV
- Can this research project be considered as a project requiring the collaboration of
another laboratory? - Quality of collaborative mentoring.
Competition specifications
A PDF document containing the following sections must be attached to the application :
- Title and summary of the research project (one page)
- Letter co-signed by the student’s director and the collaborating researcher
justifying the collaborative aspect of the student’s project and mentioning their involvement in the Network’s activities. -
Canadian Common CV (Biosketch) or equivalent depending of the domain.
Financial arrangement
The director undertakes to offer a minimum total amount for one year (including the AIRS Network bursary supplement) of $25,000 for a second cycle student, $27,500 for a 3rd cycle student and $47,000 for postdoctoral fellows.
The amounts supplementing the AIRS Network scholarship can come from different sources including industry, research funds from the research
director, institutional scholarships or other scholarships.
General conditions of grant
The awarding of grants is subject to critical review by reviewers.
- Candidates must limit the application to the number of pages and the prescribed format. Non-compliant requests will be rejected.
- Recipients undertake to declare any other source of income (new scholarship) during the year of the award.
- The scholarship is awarded to only one candidate per regular member of the Network.
- The recipient undertakes to mention the support of the network during their scientific presentations and publications
- The recipient commits to actively participating in the scientific life of the network: annual conference, webinars, student activities
