AIR, INTERSECTORIALITY, RESPIRATORY AND SOUND RESEARCH NETWORKSustainable health research network related to air quality and sound environment

The AIRS Network, funded by the Fonds de recherche du Québec, aims to advance and mobilize knowledge on the effects of air quality and the sound environment on sustainable health across the life course. AIRS brings together academic, clinical, public, and citizen expertise to:
- advance research on respiratory health and sound environments from an intersectoral perspective
- prevent the harmful effects of air pollution and noise exposure
- document the genetics and biology of health disorders associated with exposure to air pollutants,
bioaerosols, and environmental noise

Intersectorality

Inspired by the FRQ’s vision of intersectorality, the AIRS Network makes intersectoral networking a core pillar of its activities, fostering the development of collaborative, innovative research projects with tangible benefits. Thanks to Professor Catherine Laprise (CISD) and Ms. Juliette Pierre for developing this comic strip on intersectorality.

Biobank

At the heart of respiratory health research, the AIRS Network Biobank provides the scientific community with access to biological samples collected and stored according to rigorous standards, along with comprehensive associated data. Founded in 1998, it represents a key resource, offering access to rare materials and enabling the creation of cohorts based on precise criteria.

NumAIRSia

NumAIRSia is the knowledge mobilization and data accessibility platform of the AIRS Network, dedicated to the respiratory and sound research sectors. It centralizes data, their metadata, and associated scripts while promoting the dissemination of models. NumAIRSia supports collaborative research and knowledge sharing within the scientific community.

According to WHO,

air pollution and noise exposure are the two main environmental risk factors for human health.

The AIRS Network offers an integrated and proactive approach to environmental quality from a sustainable health perspective.

The AIRS Network is a community composed of more than…

350 researchers, students, partners, and citizen members.

40 institutions, including universities, research centres, hospitals, and government ministries across Québec.

Members are distributed across three main research sectors: Society and Culture, Nature and Technologies, and Health.
